Cup Noodles

Rebrand | Student Work

Cup Noodles is the original instant noodle that was first created by Momofuku Ando and put in a cup for the U.S. in 1972 in response to a food shortage in Japan after the war.

I imagined a rebrand balancing the simplicity of Japanese design and creative energy of Momofuku Ando. The bold, red brandmark harkens back to Japanese seals used to show authorship as the original instant noodle. The black and white hand-drawn illustrations tell its story to a younger generation of ramen eaters. The color palette is in close proximity to their current flavor colors so current consumers can easily navigate the product selection. And Momofuku Ando has been elevated as a brand icon to help tell the history of the first cup noodle.
